Join us Thursday 22 August for the launch of We Have Some Notes…, with very special guest Oscar winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy in conversation with writer Venetia Hawkes.

Through interviews with leading industry practitioners, We Have Some Notes… explores how the analysis, feedback and discussion which occur throughout the creative process, can most effectively contribute to the creation of successful films and TV shows.

Award-winning filmmakers discuss the most productive and harmonious ways to give and receive feedback; sharing expertise and behind the scenes stories and providing insights and practical advice on how to make notes, script editing and development a successful, rewarding and harmonious creative process. 

The writer and director interviewees are drawn from across the UK and Irish film and television industry, providing a range of perspectives. We Have Some Notes… features interviews with: Lynne Ramsay, Russell T Davies, Sally Wainwright, Edgar Wright, Lone Scherfig, Ben Wheatley, Krysty Wilson-Cairns, Corin Hardy, Amma Asante, Tomm Moore, Alice Lowe, Michael Pearce and our special guest this evening, the Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy. Simon is known for The Full Monty, Slumdog Millionaire, Trust, 127 Hours, Salmon Fishing in Yemen, Everest to name just a few of the films and TV shows he has worked on.

About the author

Venetia Hawkes is Executive Producer for Masterclasses and Bridge to Industry films at the internationally acclaimed National Film and Television School (NFTS). Independently, she provides script editing and story development advice for a small number of writers and directors and has written non-fiction articles for magazines, specialising in filmmaking, heritage and the countryside. She was formerly a member of Right Angle, the script and series editing company behind animated adaptations of classic stories for BBC, Channel 4 and HBO, which won BAFTAs, Emmys and an Academy Award nomination. She has been part of the BAFTA jury for short animation and a member of the British Independent Film Awards sub-committee for screenwriting and directing.
