We’re delighted to be joined by two exciting novelists, Ali Millar and Keiran Goddard as they chat together about their novels and their shared fascinations with marginalised places, class mobility, internalised violence and lost opportunity.
Called ‘a bleeding sweating novel’ by The Guardian, and compared to Nabokov by Stuart Kelly, Ava Anna Ada (White Rabbit, 2024) is Ali Millar’s debut novel. In 2024 The Scotsman named her their artist to watch in books. Her debut memoir, The Last Days (Penguin Random House), was released in 2022 to widespread critical acclaim, becoming a Guardian Book of the Year. She regularly chairs at literary festivals and events and has appeared on Channel Four, BBC World Service, BBC Radio Scotland, and ABC National Australia. She lives on the south coast of England and is working on her third book.
Keiran Goddard is a novelist, poet and social commentator. His debut poetry collection was shortlisted for the Melita Hulme and William Blake prizes, his debut novel HOURGLASS was longlisted for the Desmond Elliott prize and his latest novel I SEE BUILDINGS FALL LIKE LIGHTNING has been published to widespread acclaim, the Guardian calling it “striking, moving and subtly radical”. His critical and academic commentary on social issues has been published internationally.
The Real Magic bar will be open from 6.30 and then at 7pm Keiran and Ali will be chatting. There will be time for questions and some book signing. Hope you can join us.
