Event Details

Come and join us on summer solstice for a lively conversation about Sylvia Townsend Warner’s novel ‘Lolly Willowes’. Nicola Morgan and Caroline Rance – the hosts of literature podcast She Wrote Too – will introduce this witty 1920s tale and its themes of nature, witchcraft, and women’s independence. They will also highlight the fascinating life of Warner herself.

Published in 1926, Lolly Willowes follows middle-aged spinster Laura as she escapes the oppressive expectations of London life to make a fresh start in a tiny Buckinghamshire village. As she finds an affinity with the trees and plants on the peaceful woodland paths, a strange decision presents itself. Should she become a witch? Or has she always been one?

She Wrote Too is a monthly podcast that highlights female writers of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Nicola and Caroline discuss the themes, characters and humour of novels, poetry and plays that have not had the attention they deserve – and celebrate the remarkable women who wrote them. You can listen to all episodes at https://shewrotetoo.substack.com or on your favourite podcast platform.

This promises to be a really great evening with the bar open and lots of time for audience questions.
